Newford Nursing Home ~ striving for greatness
A quick look at the fantastic staff we have here at Newford Nursing Home
The people who you can talk to regarding all care and day to day operations here at Newford Nursing Home.
Joanne has worked at Newford Nursing Home for many years and officially became the Matron in 1995, after serving as Deputy prior to this. Joanne worked hard to have Newford as the first home in the area to be awarded the ISO9000 Quality Standards certification.
Joanne has two children and four grandchildren who she ensures she spends most of her days off with - AFTER a good lie in that is! Joanne is an avid 'eBayer' and has an ever-growing collection of handbags and shoes.
She enjoys drinking lots of tea, and finds that honesty is a key quality in a person. Joanne will often be seen with various neon hair colours, yet despite the bright, fun appearance, she is a methodical, professional and caring Care Manager.
Angela has been working here at Newford since the very first day of our opening in 1990. Angela recalls a single resident living here with a swarm of nurses and carers at their every beck and call! Having trained as a Nurse in the Navy, Angela has many years of nursing care under her belt as well as serving as our Deputy for around 26years.
Angela is our Clinical Lead and is known for her dry sense of humour and wit. She has a daughter and two granddaughters who she ferries to dance rehearsals, college and so on; enjoying spending her spare time with close family and friends. Angela enjoys travelling, appreciates a good coffee and has begun learning to crochet. She finds good manners and good timekeeping very important as well as being respectful to all.
Hollie has worked at Newford Nursing Home since she was in college, and enjoyed it so much, she never left! Hollie has been responsible for so much of the innovation at Newford, be it hosting art exhibitions for service users; transforming the decoration of lounges to better fit activity sessions; or creating fun staff morale ideas to help to keep our team feeling supported and heard.
Hollie has four young children and enjoys renovating houses outside of working here. She is a good all-rounder who can help out wherever needed, yet she is taking the business by its horns in present times as Business Manager and helping to make Newford a prominent fixture within the local community.
As well as both our Care Manager and Deputy being Registered Nurses, our nursing team is completed by six other nurses, who are both registered general nurses and registered mental health nurses. They all have many years under their belts, despite their youthful appearances! Jenny, Kerry and Joseph are our nurses who cover the day shifts at Newford, and the nights are shared between Louise, Malinda and Emah.
Each one of our nursing team have their own areas of experience, interests and strengths: Kerry knows all things respiratory; Louise AD is a whiz at organizing and a great communicator; Jenny is our mental health advocate and Malinda is hands-on and truly cares. Joseph and Emah are both new to Newford, but they are fitting in well and we hope for the longevity of their employment with us.
Our activities team is headed by Claire, who has worked in our activities department for decades. Claire is qualified in all things holistic - be it reflexology, to Indian head massage, from manicures to aromatherapy massage.
Claire transfers these skills to her sessions with our service users, ensuring that we have pamper sessions in our dedicated Wellness Suite or as a one-to-one in a place of our service users' choosing. Claire is also responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the activities schedule, and you will see her wearing numerous hats, from calling out bingo numbers; liaising with physiotherapists to ensure that exercise schedules are adhered to; to arranging family therapy and pub outings.
The newest member of the activities team is Julie, who is a qualified hairdresser and who head up our weekly hairdressing days. Julie loves to promote mental wellbeing within the community here at Newford and enjoys getting crafty, as well as a good sing-song.
Our team of senior care staff is headed by Julie, the Floor Supervisor, who has been with us since way back in 1997. Julie helps to ensure that the standards that Newford wishes to uphold are transferred throughout the team with help from her senior care staff members.
Each of our senior care assistant staff members have their own strong points, yet are all great at leading the team on a daily basis. The rest of the team range from new to longstanding team members, and the majority either hold or are working towards NVQs in Health and Social Care.
Tracy, who is used to busy, high-pressure work days after many years working in a pub kitchen, runs our catering team alongside her second cook Sabina, who is methodical and enjoys cleaning. Tracy is a master of flapjacks and is enjoying the challenge of creating our menus around our service user favourites and preferences. Sabina is an absolute whizz with pastry and enjoys perfecting shortbread and other tasty treats. You can find Tracy and Sabina's creations at our Greeting Station, where you can sample the delights that our service users get to have on a daily basis.
They are joined by their assistants who each have their own strengths and passions when it comes to food. Michelle, Vanna and Thaya are also being trained in how to make tasty treats for our service users, to ensure that there is an array of goodies on offer as much as possible. Our kitchen team are being put forward for NVQ's in their area, to ensure that they are all as qualified as possible in their area of expertise.
Our housekeeping team is supervised by Carole, who likes to get creative and loves to decorate for all the seasons, be it witches hats hanging from the ceiling for Halloween to handmade table centrepieces for the winter months.
Carole's team is complete with staff members who are great at their job and who go the extra mile; it is not just the carers who care at Newford. Lisa has been here at Newford for as long as most can remember and focuses her time in the laundry, whereas Vicky and Leanne love interacting with the service users and incorporating cleaning into their daily activities, be it helping them to put away their own clothes, or pegging out washing with them in the summer months. Margi is new to the team but is fitting in a treat.
Our maintenance team is made up of Mark, our newest member here at Newford and who is also a qualified plumber. Mark is joined by our enthusiastic and all-rounder Tony, who specialises in garden and exterior work. You will find these pair up ladders or loft spaces, in the garden or pottering around the interiors, working hard to ensure that Newford's appearance is up to scratch.
Our maintenance team work around each other for most of the week, ensuring that we have a handyperson on site for most of the week, and available on emergency call outs should we need them. Tony and Mark are working together alongside the management team to bring Newford Nursing Home up to date with a scheduled maintenance programme that will keep them busy for the foreseeable future.
